Spring Fever

The past month has flown by (and thus I'm immediately excused from not posting anything for almost an entire month!), and the beautiful April weather brought out many good times with the Monkey Girl.

It was a relatively busy April, but the highlight was undoubtedly the crazy Easter weekend. It started with a Friday afternoon playdate with Norah's cousin Kaelyn (or as Norah calls her, "Gah-gee"). Since Norah is now 18 months old, she is now starting to enjoy actually playing with other kids, instead of simply around them. Case in point is Norah relishing the horse play in Kaelyn's tent. Also, my eyes nearly welled up with tears when Norah picked up Kaelyn's plastic golf club, set a ball on the ground, and putted it several feet across the carpet. Obviously the obsessive Masters watching of yours truly rubbed off on Norah, who now says "golf!" every time she sees her own plastic clubs. Because of course I bought her some clubs almost right away after this precious moment.

Mimi arrived Friday night, and joined us Saturday morning for the Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Fort Worth. This was Norah's second Race for the Cure, but the first in which she could enjoy a power snack before enjoying the festivities from her stroller. She was quite good at cheering on the other power walkers.

Norah saw the Easter Bunny after Race for the Cure, and the organizers were nice enough to bring real bunnies with them. Norah maximized her bunny time, petting one with her left hand while pointing at 2 others still in the cage with her left hand. Such good multitasking. Unfortunately, Norah was quite a bit past her normal naptime during the Easter Bunny pictures, so there are quite a few of her yawning like a pro. But unlike her trip to see Santa in December, she seemed to enjoy the Easter Bunny quite a bit.

That afternoon, Karen set up an Easter egg hunt for Kaelyn and Norah, and it went swimmingly. The girls made off with a loot of stickers and candy (except for the egg Bram cleaned out while the girls were in another part of the yard), and the photo ops were quite good.

On Easter Sunday, Norah didn't see why being dressed in her Easter best should keep her from taking part in her morning firetruck ride.

We celebrated Easter Sunday with Karen's family, and Norah again enjoyed another Easter egg hunt with her cousin Kaylee (who, according to Norah, is also called "Gah-Gee"). Kaylee and Norah again cleaned up on plastic eggs (unfortunately for Bram, he was shut out this time). Considering Norah wasn't even crawling at this point last year, she's made some pretty good progress, I'd say.

And although you never could tell it now, we had a bit of a scare a couple of weeks ago. Norah and I were playing around one afternoon, and all of a sudden she couldn't put any weight on her right leg. One trip to the urgent care center later, and they told us she might have a small buckle fracture on her right leg. On went the splint, and we were to call the radiologist the next day to get a final verdict. We went to the Main Street Arts Festival in downtown Fort Worth the next morning, and given that she was sprinting around on her splint all over Sundance Square, we were not surprised when the radiologist said the results were negative. Whew!!!

All in all, it was a great month. Lots of family time. Lots of play time. Lots of new words (though "GOLF!" is still my favorite), all said with a smile and in an incredibly heart-meltingingly cute voice. But don't expect lots of cute impromptu pictures in the near future. Why, you ask? Well, once we snap a single cute picture, Norah starts racing towards the camera saying "baby, baby!" so she can see herself on the display screen. Is it just me, or is she too young to be showing such vanity? See below.

Have a great May everybody. We'll see you soon!
