I Wanna Go Fast!

Ricky Bobby would be impressed. Over the past week or so, Norah has determined that it is fun to run fast, drive fast, and demand that you give her a piggy back ride. And fast.

Each morning, she'll sprint all over the upstairs of the house almost immediately after being removed from her crib. While Karen is getting ready for work, I'll ask Norah if she wants to go fast. Norah's eyes light up, and she runs straight into the wall in her bedroom. She usually gets her arms up before she smacks her head. She has also increased the top speed on her fire engine exponentially since she first tried it out months ago. Instead of simply showing you how fast she can go, however, she prefers to ram it into your shins, so you can FEEL it. See picture demonstration below.

And this week, she figured out that she doesn't have to wait for you to offer a piggy back ride if she just jumps on your back when you are picking up a toy from the floor. Imagine my surprise when I was looking under the entertainment center for a ball one morning and felt a 28 pound monkey girl jump on my back and yell "GO!" while she wrapped her arms around me and held on for dear life.

Saturday morning we let Norah take her fire truck on her first spin outdoors. She very much enjoyed taking it to the end of the street and back. Still, I would love for someone to explain to me the physics of how someone so small can -- from a stationary position -- flip over the front of this truck. Yes, Norah's forehead had its first meeting with pavement. But being that she's a Denney, it certainly won't be her last. Of course this happened just in time for picture day at school on Tuesday. Here's what the first big scrape looks like. Not that bad, I know, but still traumatic for us. Not her, but us.

On a different note, Norah has begun to discover that it's fun to talk. In addition to trying lots of new words every day (my favorite was "golf"), she's even getting pretty good at enunciating, which is something I've never really mastered. Though I was sad to see her interpretation of the word "again" go from "uh-GEEEE" to "a-gainnnn" over the weekend.
Next weekend should be lots of fun with Easter festivities. I assume the next post will include lots of pictures of bunnies, eggs, and cute dresses and hats. Stay tuned!
